MHYSC Coaching Development Program

The MHYSC Coaching Development Program is the engine that drives all our programming. We believe that to achieve excellence in all areas we must apply expertise through Paid, fully accredited staff with the experience, knowledge, associations and contacts that will not only sustain but grow our dynamic conduit feeding development and opportunity.

Starting at our Grass Roots Level we use our paid Grass Roots and Mentor coaches to help run seasonal start-up clinics to educate new and returning coaches as well as give them access to support and other resource materials through our repository of Grass Roots training modules. Within these modules, the Grass Roots teachings and the concept of being a "Soccer Angel" is fostered. Coaches are exposed to the concept of physical, social and psychological literacy while being encouraged to simply be guardians making soccer fun. The teachings are to be broadcasted to players and parents equally so that parents understand their roles as supporters, encouragers and game leaders.

Throughout the Spring/Summer months, our "I Love Soccer Festivals" are a unique window of opportunity for our GRHC and Mentors to work 1 on 1 with coaches who express an interest to discover more about soccer coaching and perhaps think about certifications and a progressive coaching opportunity with families and players who are like minded and want more. Many of these prospects constitute our Festival Team pool of coach prospects.

At our Travel Team Level, we strive to have participating coaches attain their Provincial Pre-B certification if they are working with our Target groups from U9-U12. At the more senior level, we work with coaches to make sure they deliver age and pathway appropriate training. We make plenty of coaching resources available including help with sessions drawn from the CSA S4L library. All travel team coaches are mentored by our UEFA B licensed Club Competitive Head Coach and Grass Roots Head Coach through various programs and initiatives:

  1. Spring /Summer Academy Program offers apprenticeship/mentorship
  2. Summer Competitive / Development Team Programs offering seasonal organization/periodisation help
  3. Fall/Winter Academy Program offers apprenticeship/mentorship
  4. Fall/winter Coaches Clinics featuring theoretical class time and practical field time
  5. OSA & Toronto FC Coaching Conferences
  6. Pre-B & Provincial B 1v1 Tutelage
  7. Club Sponsored OSA Grass Roots Coaching Courses & Conferences
  8. MHYSC also has a Coaching Education Reimbursement Policy that helps pay for course expenses from the Active Start level all the way to National A or UEFA A accreditation.
  9. We promote home grown coaches to appropriate higher levels of teaching.
  10. All our Developmental, Representative, Academy, Mentor and Club Head Coaches will hold their Respect In Sport, Ethical Decision Making plus a Vulnerable Sector Screening certification/waiver.
