TFC/Pioneer Game Day Experience
TFC/Pioneer KIA Training Ground Experience
TFC Academy players get to be pros for a day
Players from Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club’s (MHYSC) TFC Academy had a unique opportunity in March to experience a day in the life of a Toronto FC player. The players, from the U11 and U13 age academy spent a day at Toronto FC’s KIA Training Ground located in Downsview.
The players learned about diet, nutrition, equipment, cognitive thinking and focus skills. They had a chance to tour the facility including the training room, dressing room and ate lunch in the team cafeteria. Their day finished with a training session under the guidance of Gianni Cimini, head coach for the U12 KIA TFC Academy Team (Ontario Player Development League).
The TFC Academy program is part of MHYSC’s Club Affiliation Partnership with Toronto FC. It is designed to help aspiring soccer players between the ages of 9 and 15 to experience the commitment level required to play elite level soccer while receiving accelerated training through the fall and winter months or the traditional "off season" for club soccer.
The 2013-14 Academy program spanned 32 sessions, over 16 weeks and was split into Boy and Girls Premier and Elite teams (who had all training paid for) in age groups U9, U11, U13, and U15. Nearly 300 players attended tryouts in September and close to 125 were selected to participate as either premier or elite players. MHYSC’s TFC Academy was led by ten paid coaches with provincial and national level accreditation delivered curriculum.

The Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club (MHYSC) and the Stoney Creek Soccer Club (SCSC) would like to extend a heartfelt note of thanks to our members as we continue to pursue Hamilton United (HU) initiatives. This year, HU experienced the realization of an Interlock House League program at the U8, U14, U16 and U19 age groups. Although initial growing pains were experienced, both clubs have realised the shared benefits of this interlock league and of other shared programming (coaching clinics, winter house league etc). HU will continue to move forward in this regard, implementing lessons learned for an even better experience in the 2014 recreational season! However, HU have decided that amalgamation of MHYSC and SCSC competitive teams will not occur for the 2014 outdoor season. Essentially this means that MHYSC and SCSC will continue to operate independently at the competitive levels while interests from other neighbouring soccer clubs into HU initiatives, including competitive amalgamation, are explored. On behalf of the MHYSC, SCSC and HU, we extend our best wishes for the remainder of the season and look forward to even greater accomplishments in 2014.
